How the AI coach works
Last updated: 2026-07-30
The coach is not one "neural network" but three separate mechanisms. First, the YandexGPT language model — it carries the conversation itself. Second, plain code with no model involved: it reads your goals, habits and check-ins and derives facts from them — that a goal has not moved for two weeks, or that a promise is still open. Third, a scheduler: it decides whether there is a reason to reach out to you first, and holds the frame — no more often than the set limit, and never during the hours you marked as quiet.
Before every reply the coach assembles context: what you told it earlier, which goals and habits are alive now, which of your promises are still open. The model answers on top of that context, inside a coaching method rather than free improvisation. When the coach writes first, the message must have a reason drawn from memory, and it names that reason in the text: without a reason the message is not sent — that is enforced by code, not by the model's good intentions. What the coach does not do: it does not diagnose, does not replace medical, legal or financial advice, does not decide for you, and never writes first just to stay visible.
AI-aim is built by an independent Russian developer — not a medical organisation and not a mental-health service; legal details and contacts live on the Contacts page. The methods the coach relies on come from open coaching practice — GROW, SMART, WOOP, solution-focused (SFBC) and others; they live in the database as separate descriptions rather than "inside the model's head". Two research findings guide us: the strength of the working alliance between coach and client is one of the most robust predictors of outcome in helping practices (meta-analysis, r≈0.41), and Terblanche's controlled study showed that an AI coach can help people move toward their goals. That is why we invest in memory and in keeping agreements rather than in witty answers.
The coach does get things wrong — better to know how. The model can mix up a detail or state something confidently that never happened: if something sounds off, say so plainly in the conversation, and a stray fact can be deleted in "What the coach remembers about you". The model learned mostly from Russian and English text, so its sense of "ordinary" work, family and routine leans toward what those texts contain most — it may not fit yours. The coaching methods also grew out of Western practice. And the coach only sees what you told it and tracked — not your whole life. It does not replace a doctor, a therapist or a human coach: in a crisis it hands you real help contacts instead of trying to handle it alone.
We update this page whenever the way the coach works changes. If anything here does not match what you see in the app, tell us (support@ai-aim.io or @ai_aim_support) — that is a mistake on our side.
